A recent blog at the New York Times confirms something many of us already knew; multiple displays increase productivity. The ability to look at one screen while working at another seems as though it would intuitively increase productivity, but for anyone who has ever seen a stock broker's workstation, multiple displays are more than just a nice creature comfort.
"Survey after survey shows that whether you measure your productivity in facts researched, alien spaceships vaporized, or articles written, adding an extra monitor will give your output a considerable boost ? 20 percent to 30 percent, according to a survey by Jon Peddie Research." The survey will only set you back two grand if you're interested in following up with that claim.
Of course, the majority of these studies are done under the watchful eye of display manufacturers. NEC has produced several claims over the last few years claiming additional displays increase productivity; but of course buying additional displays helps NEC's bottom line too.
