I highly suggest all the techo-geeks around here read this whole article. It is quite amazing.

Yikes, that's a little frightening.

That is just going to force people to download the music. It's funny when Napster was at its peak music sales where up 25%. Now they are suffering because of all the crappy actions they are taking. Soon there will be no record companies, and they will be independent artists (Which will not be bad).

The most disturbing part of this to me is someone like me would never know this was there. I am not going to run most of those programs ever in my life and would have no earthly idea why my computer would be "acting funny". If something is going to be installed into your system from a disk it should by law let you know that it is going to attach itself there. Is the fact that it said that the disc was copyright protected with this software enough notice to me the casual user that it is gonna atttach itself into my computer?

Your Rights Online: DVD Jon's Code In Sony Rootkit?
Posted by Zonk on Thursday November 17, @08:49AM
from the when-will-it-end dept.
An anonymous reader writes "With some help from Sabre Security, Sebastian Porst and Matti Nikki have identified some stolen GPL'd code in Sony's rootkit. Ironically the code in question seems to be VLC's demux/mp4/drms.c -- the de-DRMS code which circumvents Apple's DRM, written by 'DVD' Jon Lech Johansen and Sam Hocevar."
