Well my Computer this morning decided to take a SHIT! Apparently the Power supply went bad and fried my 6800 GT plus all the other components on the machine. So I am going to be purchasing a new machine.

This is what I am thinking of getting.

Video: BFG 7800GT OC

Memory: 3200 1G of memory

MB: BFG nForce Ultra PCI Express Motherboard (Socket 939) Yes AMD FALKERS!:p

CPU: AMD 939 A64 3200+ Winchester

PS: Antec Power supply 500 Watts Smart power 2.0

I still have a case and Optical drives, Plus my Audigy 2 is still working fine.

Let me know what you guys think.

Bring It!:dNo need. We've already won. :p

However, like we had previously stated, its not so much about the processor itself, AMD or Intel but the components you put it onto. While I like the idea of the NForce Ultra chipset I honestly have no experience with BFG as a company, therefore I cannot speak for their quality. I think if anyone knows of reviews or has first hand experience yea or nay about that board, they should probably speak now. We want to make sure our new found AMD friend has a positive experience.

Well I have owned BFG stuff for years. I have not had any issues with them. THats why I am going to give them a shot. ;)

And when was that? Back in the 80's? Show me some real independant numbers about failure rates of the A64 vs P4 and then we'll talk.

Here we go again...

I didn't do it either. I stayed out of this thread on purpose. SO now that the flames are getting going, I think Rehn should send me all his dead stuf to add to my collection. Of course when I fix it I won't give it back.

i don't base my usage on statistical numbers. I base my usage on peronsal experience and personal failure rates.

and now you gonna make me remember all the chips I've owned and the times they lasted for.

tbird 1200... lasted 3.5 months... sufficient cooling/heat disipation.

xp 2500+... lasted about 8 months... same, sufficient cooling/heat disipation

.... years back athlon 733 (i think) that lasted about 5 months.

450mhz <-- whatever they were calling their chips at the time... that one melted so I would say that was probably personal error.

only chip I've ever had last more than a year was the replacement to that 450.

^^ there are more amd chips i've used over the years and some prior, course the chips prior to those were built in the day when processors didn't fail often cause there just wasn't much to them.

oh, didn't mention that I've got a p2 350 that I've had for... 7-8 years?

p3 450 that i've had for ... 4 years and I think that was is older than that.

old man has a celeron 6xx that has lasted since .... 4 years maybe? (i'll give you this one though, its a celeron, not much of a processor to say the least.)

I just don't understand that failure rate. I've had nothing but good luck with AMD. A perfect example is a machine that I just upgraded Fittz from. He's been running an Athlon 1900+ for what seems like forever now and it's been rock solid (minus the couple of times I had to reinstall his OS but that's not AMD's fault ;) ). All of my AMD's never failed either, in fact I have an Athlon 800 that's running as a linux webserver right now.

So to say that AMD has a bad track record, well, I've never experienced it.

AMD has an awsome track record with me. Dante do you remember the one you built for me when I lived in back in Colorado with Fittz? I still use it as my back-up computer (aka my thottbot computer) and it is an AMD processor. Then when I was in Maryland for a while I sent it out and you did some upgrades on it. Since then I have upgraded the chip to a 900MGZ in it, but it runs solid. My newer system runs an Athlon 2.1 GHZ and I have had it running for a year and a half without incident. I am sure my next system will be an AMD processor.
