Malice, you still need a server 2008 key or you need the iso AND the key? Is it feasible to have the server up and running by next session or should we look all alternatives for this one?

Roger. I will get them to you.
Anyone else have any options for a dedicated server? dante, Ghost, kyraath, any extra machines laying around that can be re-purposed?

I have a PC that isn't being used, but right now it's kind of torn apart. If I need to I could probably whip up something on it. For sure it will work better than what Malice is doing :p

Hey Ghost, what kind of machine do you have? We should use whichever is more powerful.

So, I thought solid state stuff was supposed to be more reliable than old school hard drives. I know there is a performance gain for reads but that's not all that important. I want something that's not going to die anymore but I keep hearing about a lot of these SSD's dying quickly, especially the less expensive ones. Thoughts? Should I just replace the drive with a regular cheapo HD?

My SSD drive has been rock solid. There is a difference between consumer level and enterprise level SSD's, though. The enterprise drives are design to more reliable (as with any enterprise level device and come at a higher price tag) but I haven't really heard of consumer level drives having a high failure rate.
The ideal situation would be to get an SSD with TRIM if the server is running 2008 R2. This will greatly extend the life of the drive. If not, then I would recommend getting any of the Crucial models. That's what I'm currently running.

The spare PC I have is an Athlon 64 3500+ with 2 Gb of RAM. It was my old gaming machine 2 or 3 years ago.
SSD drives do have a lifetime. They rate it in number of write cycles. Generally, you don't want to run something that does a super huge number of writes off one (think running twitter's database or something), but no one in normal usage is ever going to have to worry about it. It's like anything else, stick with the reputable brands and do some research before you get one.
There are also some new generation hybrid drives that Seagate came out with, the Momentus XT. They have a SSD cache coupled with the HD. The electronics on the drive use the SSD for the most accessed data. They are cheaper than a SSD, but get like 2/3 of the performance of a SSD.

Well, since drive performance really isn't that big of a deal for us, I think cost is the bigger question. I might just get 2 cheaper HD's and software mirror them. I want reliability more than anything else, but cheap since we don't use it all that much. I'm just sick and tired of reloading this damn thing!
Link me some drives you are talking about, I'm guessing they are the >$200 ones and I can get massive HD's for that price. And the failures I'm reading about are just like old HD's, after a few months, no longer recognized by the BIOS.

I will kick in some cash to help out! I could even build a machine that stays at the shop. that you could log into. we could start a dropbox folder with all the game updates so evryone would have them before game day.

Ok dudes. Gaming is THIS WEEKEND!!!! Wow that happened fast.
Anyway, we are gonna try a new game called Lead and Gold. It was on the steam super summer and we picked up some 4 packs so we can all play. You will be receiving your "gift subscription" from either Dante, Cheesus or Kyraath tonight or tomorrow hopefully. I suggest you install over you own fast internet and run the tutorial at a minimum.
Other than that, the standards will be on the lineup, TF2, CoD, DoD.
See ya Saturday.
