So I'm looking for an application that will take a DVD and convert it to AVI or some other format on the hdd. I assume this is something they don't want you to be able to do but if there is an application that any of you know of, I'd appreciate it. To be more specific I'm really only interested in pulling the audio track out and saving it as an MP3 or other sound format, but if there are only applications to save it as avi, then I have another app that will pull the audio track out. Any ideas?

Here's a step-by-step guide to pulling audio from a DVD.

well holy crap look at that. I'm not the only one who wants to do this. And it seems easier than I was expecting. Thanks DANTE.

If I'm guessing correctly... I think Kyraath has some DVD's that are in Japanese and he wants to get the audio off so he can listen to them during the day to better practice and understand...
Or he could be doing bad things, he is a whore after all.... ;)

I am, I'll own up to that one, but in this case, dbone is correct. I have some movies that are supposed to have very realistic speech and I want to put it on the mp3 player to get some added practice time in. I've been currently listening to Ghost in the Shell but my teacher said that show might not be the most realistic speech.
