Now that we are getting close, I thought it would be interesting to see what everyone is going to get.

I gotta go with the DVD just for the tangibility aspect of it. There's something better about being able to physically hold an item I just paid for.
Although it's obivious that Valve is really trying to market their Steam app because you get alot more with the Gold version over the Steam version.
I still want the DVD.

How dare you Dante. Buying the DVD just supports VU who is currently holding the game up from being released because they are babies about Steam. You should buy it on Steam, save some money and just burn it to DVD if you need something tangible. Sheesh. :P
By the way, 5th stage of pre-loading is available on Steam.

I'm with Dante, when i buy software, i want the manuals, and the box, and the discs and the experience of opening it. EQ did the same kind of thing where you could buy the expansions directly through them and I still went and bought the box. Collectors Retail for me please

I don't actually know what my $430 ATI version gets me but I know its a steam version and I won't be buying anything more. :D
And whats not to get about Dante and Kyraath? I download manuals and print them out from the web. I love computers but I still like tangible things. I think the real question should be, "What's wrong with D-Bone?"

Yeah, so far HE'S really the only one not fitting in here. Isn't sanity levels defined by the masses? Since he's the outcast, I dub him insane and us sane.
--what would happen if suddenly you were the only sane person left in the world, would you then be locked up for being different?

Ok, seriously... you guys are just trying to get a rise out me right? Well, its working. I can understand the need to want something tangible. What I can't understand is why you buy the retail version just to get those things. If you need an actual CD or DVD, just burn what you download from Steam. If you need a manual, LIKE MALICE SAID, you can download and print it. (thanks for supporting my argument Malice) Buying the retail version has 2 downsides. 1. It supports VU instead of Valve. VU has the game right now and is holding up the release because of their legal battle with Valve. They should not be rewarded for such bully tactics. 2. It costs more, there is no reason to spend more money than you need to. Common sense. Plus, the gold version on Steam gets you more tangible things anyway. Posters, shirt, etc.
So, while I can see your side of the argument and even understand it, I hope you can objectively look at my side of the argument and understand it as well.

damn, you caught me, ok I really was just trying to get a rise out of dbone  I will most likely be downloading the silver package from steam. Though I truly enjoying buying the retail package and having that tangible experience, VU is a piece of crap that is plaging us all, they cannot be allowed to survive. As for the gold package. I don't need all that crap cluttering my room, but I MUST HAVE HL1 with the new engine.
