Ok, the forums have been quiet lately so I'l start a topic sure to get some good responses...

NVIDIA vs. ATI
Lets hear pros and cons for both, personal feelings, etc etc.

My thoughts - The competition has grown fierce over the past year. The crown for fastest framerates has passed back and forth between both companies lately. But, is the fastest video card all that matters? In my opinion, no. I think its important to look at the company as a whole instead of raw clock speeds. I see Nvidia as a company in constant growth pushing the limits and driving the industry. Just look at the nforce chipset. A company that started out as being known for video cards now has one the best performing chipsets on the market. Their newest GPU however does not perform as well as most people expected. Is this due to them wanting to stick to the strict product release cycle? Hard to say. All though it is quite ambitious of them to try and release a new GPU every year and have it be the best thing available, I think this could hurt them in the long run. As long as nvidia keeps up their outstanding driver support, I think they'll be ok. Now then, ATI has good points and bad points too. As a company, I think ATI has been forced to compete and that is the only reason they are still around. Thats not really a bad thing, but I don't think they would be at the same stage they are at now unless they were challenged to do so by nvidia. ATI has always been known for great multimedia products. I think they still are. Their all-in-wonder products are great. But it seems ATI has seemed to always have a problem with driver support and I think that is a major hurdle they need to overcome. Even though they have the fastest GPU currently available, I think ATI still has some work to do in order to beat nvidia.

Anyway, just some of my thoughts on the matter. What do you guys think?

My reply my kinda biased right now due to the fact I just bought a new mobo, Asus A7N8X, with the nforce2 chipset which ROCKS!

That said, I can't help feel the alluring pull of Nvidia's products for one, they always have great driver support for their products. And they're the ones that constantly set the standards for video, and now 'multimedia' chipsets. It always seems to me that ATI is scrambling to keep up or 'one better' Nvidia. Let's face it, even though ATI may hold the crown for framerates, Nvidia is king!

As far as Nvidia's new GPU, I am a little disappointed that it's not the "rock my world" video card. Oh well. Maybe when the Geforce 12 comes out.....

I remember when I was the only one that had an ATI card and was dogged on all the time about it. Mostly from D-Bone, something like ATI = Aging Technology for Idiots comes to mind. Anyways, they are both great and I have no opinon.

Saw this news tidbit this morning pertaining to our discussion...

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Graphics microchip maker Nvidia Corp. and video game publisher Electronic Arts Inc. said on Thursday they would collaborate to market and develop new games.

Under the terms of the deal, Nvidia hardware will become the "preferred" graphics platform for Electronic Arts's video game studios, and video games developed by Electronic Arts may offer features designed to work on Nvidia hardware.

Nvidia also said it will have exclusive rights to bundle Electronic Arts's games for personal computers with its products.

Score another one for Nvidia.

LOL Yeah, I remember that one... I think it was more to make fun of you than ATI Spawnny. ;) It just wouldn't be right if I didn't give you a hard time!

I don't claim allegiance to any hardware company. If it is better overall, it gets my vote. All the reviews I have read for the ATI card say it definetly out performs the NVIDIA card and they also say the drivers are pretty good too.

For now, If I had the money, I would go ATI. But that doesn't mean things couldn't change at NVIDIAs next realease.
