Almost there.<blockquote>Valve officials confirm that the long-delayed shooter is close to gold status.
After years of missed launch dates and release mishaps, the Half-Life 2 saga is entering its final chapter. Doug Lombardi, Valve's director of marketing, confirmed to GameSpot today that the release candidate for the game has been sent to its publisher, VU Games, for approval. Supposedly the audio and graphics are already available as encrypted packages via Steam. They're going to set it up so that people can already have it dl'd when the release date comes. All they'll need is to have Steam uncompress and install it and they'll be up and running in minutes.

Well since CS dorks are as prevalent as insects I would say he could work anywhere. However, I already have downloaded it and am just waiting for it to install on my steam account. But I don't have time to try to hack it nor do I really care atm.

If I didnt know any better, I would say that is something Mike Chacker would say... (inside joke for old CP peeps)
Anywho, yes, anyone can download the HL2 pre-load, I also have all 3 pre-loads on my system. Just create a steam account and its available. You won't get the final bit unless you pay for it obviously. Also, I heard that you won't be able to get it from steam until its available on retail shelves... That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. The whole point of electronic distribution is so I don't have to wait for retail stores to get it. Lame.

Come on dude. Retail stores get it a few days before release date and then they "put" it on the shelves the day its released. It's the exact same, why must you complain so much? I must have really worn off on you...

You obviously failed to see my point, yet again. When the game "goes gold" it is final and should be available on steam. There is no reason why it shouldn't be since they don't have to stamp out the CD and package it, etc. THAT'S what I was trying to say. Electronic distribution should save you at least a couple weeks of waiting.
And yes, I like to complain. It's what I do best. ;)
