So I'm looking for a scanning tool that I can unleash on our network and find problem computers. I've looked into the MS baseline security analyzer, and it's corresponding command line tool hfnetchk and they won't work for what I'm wanting. These tools will only work on computers that I have administrative access to and also only on windows computers. With all the students we want to monitor, we do not have administrative access plus there are some of them running bsd or linux or various other alternative OS's. We need a tool that will be able to scan all of them for vulnerabilities.
Any ideas?

What kind of front end do you need. Can it be a Nessus box??? that will hammer on anything if you have the correct reference files.

We've thought about a Nessus box, but we're trying to stay away from linux. The people here can't really handle an alternative OS and I need to plan for the future when I won't be here. If we can't find something else though, we'll probably use it.
