OK, I picked up a new fujitus Lifebook C2310. Its a great laptop except I would love for it to display at 1280x1024. It's a nice 15 inch screen, but will only go to 1024x768. I've tried overriding the monitor selection to a 1280x1024 laptop display driver and all that does is make the desktop area bigger and you have to scroll the screen down to see everything. Is there any way to get this to go higher? Do you think its a limitation of the screen itself or is it the vide chip? My initial google searches didn't really produce anything. Any ideas would be appreciated.

It's the lcd panel itself. No way that I'm aware of to make it run higher resolutions.

It's a factor of the number of pixels that are in the LCD panel. Since they need a red, green and blue pixel to accurately display colors you need at least three times the number of pixels as the resolution you want to display. For 1024x768 thats 2.3 Million pixels. For 1280x1024 it's 3.9 Million. Getting 3.9 Million pixels in a 15 inch space with a low enough defect rate is probably pretty tough. That is why most 15" panels are only 1024. Of course if you want to pay three times as much you could probably get a panel that would display that resolution.

Yeah, I know, its partly because I saw yours run at such a high resolutin that I thought I should be able to get mine to run that high. Well this will get me through school till I can get a real job and make some money.
