My old rig was so old I got tired of trying to play games on it, let alone try to compete with it. It was ridiculous. So I dropped out for about a year until I could get a rig that would make it worth while. Well that finally happened and its a crazy story.
Last week I stayed at my parents house while they were on vacation. I was bored one night and decided to read the local Loveland newpaper. After reading everything in it cover to cover, (including all the ads) I was still bored. I glanced over at the classified section laying folded over next to me.
"What the hell", I thought, "you never know what you might find."
Well I started looking through the job section more out of curiousity than necessity. I finished that rather quickly and I remember thinking that I didn't want to go through the car ads when I didn't need one. I was about to put the Classifieds down when a heading caught my attention. COMPUTER HARDWARE.
"Hmmm, I wonder what they have."
Most of the time they have old useless crap that people are trying to get rid of, like 486s and external modems, so I wasn't expecting much as I read the two entries.
"Hmmm, an Apple. Don't care about that."
The first word in the next ad really grabbed my attention. Like the time the hooker grabbed my ... well thats a story for another time. Anyway, it really grabbed my attention.
ALIENWARE
"Uh Oh, whats this. Lets see P4 3ghz $1000; 18in. LCD $250. <phone number>. Holy greys Batman, thats cheap." I thought. "Surely too good to be true. I wonder what the catch is."
I called the number and asked her for the specs. It was fricking unbelievable. My heart started palpitating, a lot like the time I dreamt that my sisters best friend's mother's college roommate started doing this thing with my ... uh this also is a story for another time.
Anyhow, here it is for a $1000 bucks, drum roll please:
Conspiracy Blue Alienware Predator Case
P4 3Ghz
1024Mb PC3200 RAM
x2 80Gb Seagate Barricuda's in RAID 0 Stripe
GeForce 5900 Ultra
Mobo Intel D875PBZ
3 year warranty through Alienware
included software:
-full version of Windows XP Pro
-Baldurs Gate II Dark Alliance
-Black & White
Lets not forget the 18in. NEC multisync LCD display for $250 bucks
I priced it out on Alienware's site. Everything was still there except for the harddrives, with the monitor came to $3600+ which I got for $1250. Unbelievablly lucky.
So the moral of the story is ... Im ready to LAN PARTY like its 2004 baby!
