I noticed that a number of people purchasing new monitors lately have gone with the viewsonics. I am thinking of getting another monitor. I was curious as to which models you guys have and what your reasons were for making the purchase. Also, I think Dante had the new widescreen viewsonic. How do you like the widescreen?

I have the VX924, as does D-Bone. I like it plenty. When I got it, it was the only 4ms response time lcd out there. Now I think everyone says that. If I were to buy a new monitor, I would buy a widescreen. I was skeptical back in the day because most games did not have native support for them so they looked kind of jacked up. Now, I'm finding almost all new games have native support for these new resolutions and look fantastic. Perhaps Dante can give his opinions on the matter, considering he's a widescreen user.

As far as actual models, well I'm kind of out of the loop on that myself these days. Once you leave the tech shop/IT world, you seem to loose touch with whats hot. However, some good places that usually have nice product comparisons and reviews are.

Good luck and make sure you post what you are thinking about getting to make D-Bone happy or he will make fun of you at the next session if you choose poorly.

Mine is the VX2025wm model and I love it. I did alot of comparisons before I settled with this one. It downscales nicely to lower resolutions and has a fast response time. I've come across a few older games that don't support a widescreen resolution and it makes the game look a little funny stretch but it's still playable. The main reason I went widescreen is for desktop real estate. I can clutter up my desktop with icons so much better than the standard 4:3 ratio. ;)

If you're considering widescreen, don't hesitate, buy one. I fully recommend them. A word of caution researching LCD panels: make sure that it fully supports 32bit color at its native resolution. There are models that use a dithered 16bit method (usually in the less expensive range) and it's noticeable.

And yes, make sure you get D-Bone's consent before making any purchases. He tends to get moody if you don't seek his council. :p

Ok Dante, you brought this on yourself....

Dante built a system for Phantom without having anyone look over the build. Well surprise surprise, he ordered incompatible parts. Socket AM2 processor with a Socket 939 motherboard. And oh yeah, AM2's use DDR2, and Dante ordered DDR. Awesome work DANTE.

So, you see, he is translating my ripping his ass for being a retard into "moodiness".

BACK ON TOPIC NOW...

Yes, love my Viewsonic. They make great LCD's. I would also look into the widescreen models if I were buying one today. :)
