Well duh! AMD is giving gamers and enthusiats alike what they really want. Intel just says, "Na, you guys don't need 64 bit and if you do fine, you can have one that runs 32-bit stuff like shit and costs both an arm and a leg." However, I did have some friends that worked at Intel until they got laid off and the word on the street is this, Intel has a project code named "Plan B" . That consists of a 64-bit desktop processor just in case AMD's Athlon 64 picks up. So Intel's statement that they will never again lose the top spot is probably not going to happen. They are just such a huge giant and from what I hear one of the most dispicable companies in this great country.

However, having said all that, those of you who do 3D desktop creation and animation the P4 is still going to be the best bet. But according to the Anandtech review, for code monkies like me an Athlon 64 is going to crunch that compile time down quite a bit.

That's just my $1.02.

I'm Torn between the two. Like malice said it depends on what you're doing. each has strength's and weaknesses. I have one of each and can't realy tell a lot of difference between them in my daily usage. This being a 3200+ and a 3.06HT. So there you have it guys my very own version of "I don't know "

Well that was helpful. :silent:

But I think Death is right on. Benchmarks are stinking close with these processors that it's nothing more then a score war. It's been that way for awhile, I guess, but when the benchmarks are looking like a difference of 1-5 fps between cpu's... pffft...

I can't wait for more 64-bit software development. THAT's when it'll finally become interesting again.

I also think that everyone always overlooks the clock speed difference of these. The highest AMD is running at 2.2 GHZ!! That's a whole 1GHz slower than Intel and yet they keep matching in the benchmarks. THAT makes AMD the king in my book.

I think i'll have to agree in two categories. If I were to buy another system RIGHT NOW, it would most likely be another AMD. However if I was some crazy graphic artist, i would be more swayed toward intel. There should be two categories, King of Gaming, and King of StupidWorkRelatedCrap. Amd has gaming, Intel has the other.

And yeah, with a different of 1-5 fps it is getting to the point of absurdity, when it's that close, the only thing that makes one better than the other is price and amd has always been able to pull that card on intel.

I'm mostly looking forward to what the future of 64bit is going to hold for us, when more apps come out that support it, things are going to get interesting again.

Actually, AMD wins in alot of the business tests as well. Its really only in the media encoding and rendering stuff that Intel still holds the crown. So for general stupid work related crap, AMD is still the best.

It would seem that AMD is a favorite on this board. :P
