Anandtech has released part 2 of their high end video card shoot-out. Read all about it right here: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1896
<blockquote>This time around we tested at 1280x1024 (or 960 in some cases), and 1600x1200. At each of these resolutions we tested with AA and AF off and on when possible. Some games brought both cards to their knees, while others provided little more than a bump in the road. There is an incredible amount of information in this article so you may want to set aside some time to digest it all. We've done one unconventional test that will at least be a very good point of discussion, and there are plenty of surprises within.</blockquote>Sounds like fun!

That was an interesting read. Have you noticed how cheap the 9800 cards are right now? Sure they are not the XT new super cool one, but they are only $175. And that's for 128MB. I'll wait for a while to be sure, one of the points made in that article was very true and often forgotten. If you're buying a video card for a game that's not out yet and you're trying to decide the best one, wait until the game is out and then decide. Since either HL2 or EQ2 are the only ones that really motivate me right now, I'm not going to get a video card until one or the other is out and tests with final code/final chips are done.

And one other true and often forgotten tidbit. No matter which of the flagship products of ATI or NVidia you get you will be getting an UBER video card! It's almost to the point where you can't really go wrong. Soon we will be squablling about how one does 105.7 fps in doom3 and the other does 104.1, holy crap does it really matter?! I love this industry for that fact though. It never used to be that way. I remember the diamond stealth 3d cards. WTF was that? There was no 3d about them whatsoever. I just hope they keep close and neither goes bankrupt trying to push the envelope because all of us gamers win in the long run.

Don't we do that now? But you're right, Malice. Which ever card you buy will be a kickass uber card.

The trend I'd like to see end is the cutting edge cards coming in at $400-500. I wonder how much revenue the companies really get from the initial release cards. Everywhere I always hear "I'll wait for the prices to come down".

I watched the ATI/Half-Life 2 event (http://www.fileplanet.com/files/130000/131094.shtml) and I found it amusing that they kept saying "We continue to stay one step ahead of the competition (read - Nvidia  )." Continue?? Isn't it just recently that they moved ahead? Can't wait to see Nvidia trump ATI.
